When was the Beginning of Our Universe?

The Big Bang theory:

It all started here!

Humans have been looking up at the sky and stars, wondering how the universe all began for a long time and there are many contributors who have tried to uncover the truth about our mysterious universe including, Albert Einstein, Edwin Hubble and Stephen Hawking.

The Big Bang theory has been such a prominent subject of debate in scientific, philosophical and religious discussion but has been widely accepted models for the universe’s development.

The Big Bang theory is a way to explain what happened at the very beginning of our universe. We have been shown in astronomy and physics that beyond a reasonable doubt that our universe did in fact have a beginning. Before the moment the Big Bang happened, there was nothing; The big bang theory is an effort to explain what happened during and after that moment. According to the standard theory, our universe sprang into existence as "singularity" around 13.7 billion years ago!

Some common misconceptions of the Big Bang theory:

When we think of the Big Bang and what it entailed, we tend to imagine a great explosion. However, experts say it wasn’t an explosion; it was more of an expansion and the universe is still expanding today. Rather than imagining a balloon popping and releasing its contents, imagine a balloon expanding.

According to the many experts, space didn't exist prior to the Big Bang. In the late 60’s and early 70’s, measurements of time and space were added to Einstein's Theory of General Relativity and the calculations came up with time and space having a finite beginning that corresponded to the origin of matter and energy.

A Memory of Mine:

Thinking back to when I was a child, I recall having conversations with my sister about where it all started. It was so difficult for me to wrap the idea of a being creating the universe but I also didn’t know enough information about cosmology to form a firm opinion or to understand it. It still isn’t all easy. There are still a lot of questions but I’ve only begun to tap into this world and I am looking forward to what else is in store for me on this journey. Cosmology has given me so much more insight and has given me some comfort.
